What it is
Amoxicillin kills bacteria by attacking their cell wall. It does not work against viruses such as the common cold.

Typical use
Usually taken two or three times a day for a defined short course. Complete the course as prescribed and follow the local formulary or SPC.

What to tell the patient
Finish the whole course even when you feel better. Tell us straight away if you get a widespread rash, swelling of the face or difficulty breathing.
