Browsing and searching

You do not need an account to search the dictionary. Searches are sent to the site's own server so results can be returned, and are not used to build a profile of you or shared for advertising.

Suggesting a term

When you use the “Suggest a term” form, the site stores what you submit: the English and Maltese wording, any notes, and — only if you choose to fill them in — your name and email address. Name and email are optional and are used solely to follow up on your suggestion, for example to clarify the wording or credit the contribution. Suggestions are visible only to the dictionary editor and are never published with your contact details attached.

Pronunciation audio

Where a term has no recorded pronunciation, the Maltese wording is sent to a third-party speech synthesis service (ElevenLabs) to generate audio on request. Only the word or phrase being read aloud is sent — never your search history or contact details.

Ġabra lexicon lookups

When you open the “Ġabra lexicon details” panel on a term, the word is looked up in the Ġabra open Maltese lexicon operated by the Institute of Linguistics and Language Technology, University of Malta. Only the word is sent.

Hosting and technical logs

The site is hosted on Lovable's infrastructure. As with any website, the hosting platform processes standard technical request data (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to serve pages and protect against abuse.

Retention

Dictionary entries are kept for as long as the dictionary is published. Term suggestions are kept while they are under review and afterwards as a record of how an entry came about; contact details attached to a suggestion are removed on request.

Your rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you may ask for a copy of the personal data you have submitted, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Because the only personal data this site collects is what you optionally type into the suggestion form, requests can be handled by submitting a note through that same form describing what you would like removed, or by contacting the dictionary editor.
